Information on Precious Metals and Beads
We source the very best materials available for our products, whilst doing our best to keep our prices competitive. However, we do not skimp on anything! All clasp fittings for Necklaces and Bracelets are made from Sterling Silver. However 14kt Goldfill fittings are also available. We never use Silver plated materials in the interests of our customers who may have a nickel allergy. We also use Sterling Silver earwires for all earrings as standard, however 14kt Goldfill earwires are also available on request.
We have provided a definition below of each metal for clarity.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. The copper is necessary for durability and strength, as 100% silver is too soft to use on its own. Sterling silver complements almost any gemstone and has a clean, modern look.
14KT Gold-Fill
"14KT gold-filled" is made by bonding 14 karat gold with a core of brass. The gold is essentially rolled around the brass. In the U.K., gold-filled items must contain 20% gold by weight. This product has 100 times more gold than a gold-plated product, and will last a lifetime if cared for properly.
Swarovski (Austrian) Leaded Crystals
We only use the best, genuine Swarovski Crystals from the Swarovski Crystalized Elements brand. Swarovski crystal beads shine and sparkle like no others. They are highly refractory due to a 30% lead content. They are available in a variety of fabulous colours and shapes for jewellery designing.
Swarovski crystals come mainly in 3 effects, clear, AB and AB2X.
Clear crystals are lovely transparent stones which give an appearance similar to clear glass.
AB crystals have a special coating on one side, which reflects through the crystal enabling it to catch the light in it's facets, thus giving the stone a brilliant sparkle. We prefer this type of crystal as it gives maximum sparkle.
AB2X are completely covered in the same coating used on on one side of the AB crystals. However, we believe this actually dulls the crystals and gives more of an opaque effect, so for this reason, we do not use AB2X crystals in our products. However, we do keep them in stock if you require them.
